Dr. Mavis Okyere is a Ghanaian academic and mathematics education specialist at the University of Cape Coast, where she lectures in the Department of Basic Education. She holds a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Alberta, alongside earlier qualifications in mathematics education from UCC.
Her research focuses on mathematics teaching and learning, with particular emphasis on culturally responsive pedagogy and ethnomathematics. She is well known for integrating indigenous Ghanaian knowledge, especially Adinkra symbols, into mathematics instruction to make abstract concepts more accessible to learners. Her work also explores student cognition, self-efficacy, and assessment practices in mathematics education.
Before joining UCC, Dr. Okyere taught at the Catholic University College of Ghana. Through her teaching and research, she continues to contribute to improving mathematics education in Ghana and beyond.
