Akosua Dufie Ankomah is an Assistant Lecturer with the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. She holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy (BPharm) and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in Pharmaceutical Microbiology all from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana.
Her research focuses on the isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants which are responsible for the plant’s antimicrobial prowess as well as bioactive compounds from plants for wound healing, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immunostimulatory activities. She also has interest in toxicity studies of new bioactive compounds and in the post market surveillance of processed herbal medicines used for the management of different infections, and those used for immunomodulatory activities.
Even as a budding researcher, she is a recipient of an enviable research award by the Directorate of Research Innovations and Grants (DRIC) at the University of Cape Coast as a support towards a research conducted by her. Her persistence to climb the academic ladder has landed her into her current academic position where she teaches undergraduate students to become professional Pharmacists. She has handled students in areas of Immunology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Basic Microbiology, Good Manufacturing Practices and has taught and demonstrated in laboratory sessions.
She holds membership in the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, the Lady Pharmacists Association of Ghana, the Microbiology Society, United Kingdom and the American Society for Microbiology.
Her current PhD study seeks to isolate and characterize bioactive compounds from plants as anti-infective agents.
