Dr. Samuel Egyakwa Ankomah is a lecturer in the Department of Management at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana, and an academic researcher specialising in health policy and management.
Dr. Ankomah holds a PhD in Health Policy and Management from the University of Otago, New Zealand. His PhD thesis, which focused on Patient-Public Engagement in Health System Improvement, was awarded an exceptional PhD thesis by the Division of Health Sciences, University of Otago in 2023. Dr. Ankomah also holds a master's degree with distinction in International Health Services and Hospital Management from London South Bank University, UK, and a bachelor's degree with first class honours and a final GPA of 3.82 from the University of Ghana, Legon.
Dr Ankomah has nearly 17 years of professional experience as a health service administrator. He has served as Business Manager and Head of Administration in various departments at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, including Family Medicine, Oncology, Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat, Oral Health, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr Ankomah has published in high-profile Q1 journals, including The Lancet, PLOS One, Health Policy and Planning, Global Health Research and Policy, PLOS Neglected Tropical Medicine, Health Expectations, and others. He also serves as an Editorial Board Member for Health Policy Open and Discover Health Systems journals and is a reviewer for many reputable journals.
He has taught a variety of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including Health Economics, Public Health Care, Health Policy and Ethics, Public Health Planning, Health Financing, Business Ethics and Corporate Governance, Strategic Management, and Principles of Management.
He has also supervised over 45 Master of Public Health students through the successful completion of their theses at the Presbyterian University, Ghana. He is currently supervising a number of Master’s degree students' dissertations in Health Services Management at the University of Cape Coast.
Dr. Samuel Egyakwa Ankomah was born and raised in Takoradi. He studied in Ghana, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand, and currently resides in Cape Coast. He enjoys playing the organ and watching football, especially supporting his favourite team, Arsenal.
