James Afriyie is a lecturer at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, (formerly Department of Human Biology), School of Allied Health Sciences, College of Health and Allied Sciences, University of Cape Coast. He previously served as the School Registration and Examinations Officer and as the Departmental Registration and Examinations Officer. He is currently a member of the University Timetable Committee.
James obtained his Master of Science degree in Reproductive Biology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. He also undertook one-year interdisciplinary fellowship with a focus on adolescent health at the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Health, Department of Pediatrics, Medical School, University of Minnesota, USA.
James Afriyie has provided successful and impactful teaching services in anatomy, physiology and health for several years in the university with some of his former students working at high levels in academia, health and other fields. He has also had the opportunity to serve on committees and in teams for the development of academic programs in the university and in one affiliated institution to the College of Health and Allied Sciences.
The research focus of James Afriyie is to research for evidence to support planning and development of effective interventions for healthy development and prevention of negative health outcomes among children and adolescents. James leads in some research projects and has a couple of peer review publications to his credit. He serves a section of the academic community at the national and international levels with peer review services.
James has had some privileges in providing voluntary services in public health and towards healthy development of young people in Ghana and abroad. He is the founder of a local not-for-profit organization in Ghana, the Aldersgate Foundation.
