Dr. Dickson Okoree Mireku is a Research Fellow at the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance (DAPQA) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana. Dr. Mireku graduated from UCC with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in June, 2004 and a Master of Philosophy in Geography in 2013. He, in 2017, acquired a Doctor of Philosophy in Geography (Resource Management) from UCC, Ghana. Additionally, Dr. Mireku holds certificates: in Food Security from the Long-term Europe-Africa Research and Innovation Partnership for Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (LEAP4FNSSA) (June, 2021); in Executive Leadership Programme in Monitoring and Evaluation for Public and Private Sectors from the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana, Accra, Ghana (November, 2020); in Qualitative Research Techniques from the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, University of Cape-Coast, Ghana (December, 2015). 

Dr. Mireku has collaborated with several colleagues in Academia and Research to work on a number of projects including: 

  1. Resilience Against Climate Change, Social Transformation Research and Policy Advocacy (REACH-STR) funded by the European Union (EU) Agriculture Program,         EUR 2,323,340 for 2019–2025; 
  2. Assessment of Mass Drug Administration (MDA) in the Wenchi Municipality Project; Investigative into Possible for Continued Onchocerciasis High Prevalence in the Wenchi Municipality of Ghana funded by Sightsavers, UK, GH¢ 300, 640.00 for 2019-2021; 
  3. Global Challenges Research Fund Small Project: Challenging Blindness in Sub-Saharan Africa Funded by GCRF, UK, £ 34, 520 for 2020–2021; and 
  4. Assessing the Impact of Research and Scholarly Output of UCC Scientific Researchers funded by the DRIC, UCC, Ghana, GH ¢18, 530 for 2020. 

Dr. Mireku has been a journal reviewer: for the Scholedge International Journal of Management and Development (SIJMD), since January, 2016; for the Ghana Journal of Science of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Ghana, since 2019; and for the BMC Public Health Research Group, since July, 2022. Dr Mireku is a certified member of some professional academic bodies including the Ghana Geographical Association (GGA) from June, 2013; the Fairwork and Digital Platform, UK, from May, 2020; University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), from September, 2020; and the Long-term Europe-Africa Research and Innovation Partnership for Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (LEAP4FNSSA), from June, 2021. 

Dr. Mireku worked as: an Economics Teacher at Holy Child Senior High School, Cape Coast, Ghana, 2006-2016; a Geography Tutor at St. Francis College of Education, Hohoe, Volta Region, Ghana, 2017-2018; and, as Research Scientist at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Accra, Ghana, 2018-2020. At his current place of work in Academic Planning Section of DAPQA, UCC, the duties of Dr. Mireku include developing and evaluating research grant proposals and conducting researches related to Academic Resources Management (including Academic Facility Assessments, Examination Monitoring Surveys and Health, Sanitation and Sewage Management Surveys).
