About

Dr. Marcelinus Dery is a communication lecturer and practitioner with over 22 years experience as a journalist. Before joining academia in 2013, I worked with Diamond Fm in Tamale as a reporter and later with Graphic Communications Group Ltd as one of its Northern Regional correspondents. By way of academic trajectory, I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in French, Archaeology and Geography from the University of Ghana and a Master of Philosophy in Communication and Media Studies from the University of Education, Winneba. In 2022, I gained admission to the University of The Gambia as a West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) scholar to pursue a PhD in Climate Change and Education and completed successfully in 2025. My current research interests therefore, include climate change communication and education, climate change mitigation and adaptation, journalism, environmental communication, Interpersonal/Intercultural Communication and Oil and Gas Communication. Management and conservation of the shea tree (vitellaria paradoxa) through the application of innovative communication is of special interest to me since it was the focus of my doctoral studies. I also serve as a consultant to many organisations on issues concerning climate change and environment, media theory, and practice and sustainability.
