Dr. phil. Michael Yao Wodui Serwornoo is a broadcaster, community media expert, and a Lecturer. Serwornoo's research explores the global media from very peculiar perspectives. He studies the power dynamics in journalism institutions, the forces that create balance and imbalance of this power, its impact on news organizations and the global south in general. At the extreme end of global communication is community media which Serwornoo researches with passion, investigating concepts such as participation, equity and social change. His research has been published in a number of journals, including Journalism Studies, Journal of Media Ethics, Journalism, 3CMedia and the Journal of Media Business Studies. He is a member of the ICA, IAMCR, Communication Educator Association of Ghana (CEAG) and Ghana Journalist Association. He has also work as a freelancer in Germany and Ghana.


Before entering the academy, he worked for ATL FM in different editorial and management roles for 8 years.He also worked in the role of guest Presenter/Producer for the BBC World Service in London. His Ph.D. is from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany. Serwornoo has been on the faculty of the University of Cape Coast since 2014, and he is currently serving as the Department Examination and Registration Officer.
