LEONARD DERKYI-KWARTENG, BSc; MB ChB; MBA, MGCP (Anatomic Pathology)
Leonard Derkyi-Kwarteng is an Associate Professor of Pathology at the School of Medical Sciences, University of Cape Coast. He joined as faculty of the Medical School since its inception in 2009 as a lecturer in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology where he still serves as an adjunct and later on helped to form the Department of Pathology after his residency training in 2015. He has in the past served as Head, Department of Pathology and Vice Dean of the School, Clinical Skills Lab Coordinator, where he coordinated the integration of Clinical Skills into student modules and School’s Exams officer, overseeing all examinations conducted within the school.
Prof. Derkyi-Kwarteng is an Anatomic Pathologist who completed his residency training in Laboratory Medicine (Anatomic Pathology) at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Accra and inducted as a Member of the Ghana College of Physicians. He has Master’s Degree in Business Administration from University of Ghana. He had his PhD in Chemical Pathology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the same institution that awarded his BSc and MBCHB degrees.
As Anatomic Pathologist, Prof Derkyi-Kwarteng is a specialist pathologist and the Head of Pathology Department at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, which is affiliated to the Medical School. He serves as an expert witness for the Superior Courts of Ghana as medicolegal expert.
His research interest is in oncopathology (Breast and Female Reproductive Pathology) with several peer-reviewed publications.
Prof. Derkyi-Kwarteng is an ardent advocate for working and improving systems and in his spare time enjoys discussing pertinent political issues of national importance.
