About

Prof. Victor Y A Barku is a progressive professor in Organic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, University of Cape Coast. His research interest is in Natural Products Chemistry (Phytochemistry) focusing on isolation and structural elucidation of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants purposively towards drug discovery. He holds a Ph.D. degree certificate in Chemistry from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

He has so far characterized a cross-section of secondary metabolites namely alkaloids, terpenoids, and flavonoids considered to have contributed immensely to research knowledge-based literature and intrinsic evidenced-based healthcare delivery. He is committed and result oriented with a motivation and a reputation for ensuring success in every prescribed undertaking. He is able to adapt to challenging situations, balance multiple competing priorities, still achieving strict deadlines in decision making and project execution.

He is open-minded, friendly and a team player with a sound and optimistic outlook on all things in life. He possesses an excellent ability to undertake meaningful and relevant research in his field of study.

Prof. Barku has published over 30 articles in reputable peer-reviewed journals including book chapters. He is a member of the Asian Council of Scientific Editors and Editorial Board member of the South Asian Research Journal of Natural Products. He is also a Technical Editor for the Research Journal of Medicinal Plants and Research Journal of Phytochemistry.
