Alexander Weremfo is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cape Coast. He is a graduate of the University of New South wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia (PhD. Chemistry, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana (MPhil. Pharmacology), and the University of Ghana, Accra, Ghana (BSc Biochemistry). He possesses extensive research skills and experience in bioanalytical techniques. His research interests are in biosensors, chemical contaminants in food and environment, and bioactive natural products. To this end, he applies several chemical and physical principles to analyse biological, food and environmental substances. Presently, his research is centralised broadly on biogenic amines in locally produced fermented food products and methods for optimising extraction and quantification of phenolic compounds. He also teaches several courses in Biochemistry programme notably biological oxidation and bioenergetics, mechanism of enzyme action and catalysis, enzymology, and biostatistics. He is a member of the International Society of Electrochemistry, Royal Australian Chemical Institute, and Ghana Science Association.
