Prof. L. K. Sam-Amoah holds a PhD (2001), and M.Phil (1994) and MSc. (1993) degrees from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. He is a Professor of Agricultural Engineering and was the Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences of the University of Cape Coast from August 1, 2016 to July 31, 2019. Prior to his appointment as Provost, Prof. Sam-Amoah served as the Dean, School of Agriculture, Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering, and Coordinator for the Technology Village of the School of Agriculture.
His research areas are: Performance Assessment of Irrigation Schemes; Agricultural Simulation Studies; Irrigation System/Scheme Management Turnover Studies; Crop Water Requirement Studies; and GIS and Remote Sensing for Water Resources Development and Management.
He is a member of Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE), Ghana Society of Agricultural Engineers (GSAE), Ghana Science Association (GSA) and University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG). He has also served as External Examiner/Assessor for the University of Larenstern (Netherland), University for Development Studies, University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and University of Education, Winneba. He has won a number of awards including Israeli Government Award, Ghana Government Scholarship, World Bank Scholarship, Swedish Government Award (SIDA) and Commonwealth Fellowship.
He has served and continues to serve on a number of boards and committees both in and outside the University of Cape Coast. He served as a member of the Committee of Deans and Principals of RUFORUM’s 105-member Universities across 37 African countries (2014-2016). He currently serves on the 7-member Technical Committee of RUFORUM (Regional Universities Forum on Capacity Building in Agriculture) which is headquartered at Makerere University, Uganda.
Prof. Sam-Amoah is happily married with three adult children.
