About

Gideon Enoch ABBEYQUAYE (ESQ) is a Legal practitioner with a strong background in Law, Management Information Systems, Economics and Mathematics. He holds a Master of Business Administration (Management Information Systems) degree from University of Ghana, Bachelor of Arts (Economics) degree, Bachelor of Laws degree, Diploma in Education from University of Cape Coast and a Barrister at Law professional certificate from the Ghana School of Law, Makola, Accra. He has also completed the Professional Leadership Empowerment Academy of the School of Management of the University at Buffalo (State University of New York), United States of America. His research interests are Use of ICT tools in University Administration, Database Management, Automation of Business Processes, Students’ Records Management, and Web Application Development.

Gideon is member of the Ghana Bar Association in good standing. He is also a member of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA). He has provided 27 years of excellent, dedicated, unbroken service to the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

With versatile skillsets spanning diverse areas including Leadership, Law, Information Systems, Mathematics, Economics and Engineering, Gideon has provided technological and administrative leadership for many years in various roles in the Registrar’s Office, Students’ Records Section and as Director, Directorate of Academic Affairs. He was a core member of the team that developed the UCC Online Information System (UCCOSIS). Indeed, when the developers of UCCOSIS left, he saved UCC a lot of money by advising management not to sign a maintenance agreement which required the University to pay five dollars (USD5) per student each year. This move has saved and continues to save UCC a lot of money. He then managed the system for about 10 years before he was promoted to the role of Director of Academic Affairs. Even in his current role, he still contributes significantly to the development of and improvement of UCCOSIS by offering useful suggestions and guidance to the development team.

Gideon has participated in and led many technical discussions involving the university and external technical teams like IT Consortium (Development of UCCOSIS), Sambus Ltd (Setting up of ICT Center), and Prascient Ltd (Development of Students’ Information System for CoDE). Furthermore, he has attended several local and international training workshops, seminars and conferences organised under the auspices of African Network Operators’ Group (AfNOG) in Nigeria, Morocco, Tanzania and Rwanda. Others include Building Expertise and Training for Growth in the Consumer Goods and Food Processing Industry in Ghana (BET Ghana) (Germany), Ghana Bar Association, RUFORUM (Cameroun) and others as participant, resource person or facilitator.

Mr. Abbeyquaye has served and continues to serve (as Secretary, Member or Chairman) to various statutory Boards and Committees of the University, including Governing Council,  Academic Board, Administration Appointments and Promotions Committee, and Registrar’s Appointment and Promotions Committee.

Over his long period of service at the University, Mr. Abbeyquaye has gained considerable knowledge, experience and competence in Leadership in Higher Education Administration, Law and Information Systems. His successful record in servicing committees, international exposure, exceptional ICT skills, and knowledge of the University of Cape Coast makes him a well-equipped, well-prepared, excellent and outstanding administrator whose performance as Director of Academic Affairs  exceeded expectations. He was appointed Registrar with effect  from 1st November, 2024.

His marriage to Gladys is blessed with three children, Nennyi, Nhyira and Ayeyi.
