Prof. Eric K.W. Aikins
Prof. Eric K.W. Aikins is an Associate Professor of Geography and Regional Planning. He heads the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast, Ghana. He is a Professor with more than fifteen years teaching experience. He holds a PhD degree from the University of Cape Coast, Department of Geography and Regional Planning and a Post-graduate Diploma in Education from the same university. Additionally, he holds two Masters of Arts degree in Geography and Population Studies from the Binghamton University, New York, USA, and the United Nations Regional Institute for Population Studies at University of Ghana, Legon-Accra, Ghana respectively. He completed his undergraduate studies in the University of Ghana where he holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Geography with Linguistics from the Department of Geography and Resource Development and the Department of Linguistics.
In the course of his pursuit for a better future he trained as Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Minnesota, United States, where he was certified by Minnesota State Board of Nursing. Whiles in the United States of America, North Carolina, Prof. Eric K.W. Aikins was employed as an Adjunct Professor at the Winston Salem State University, the then Department of Social Studies where he taught the course: Technological Analysis in Justice Studies for a semester.
He has authored four university level textbooks one of which he co-authored with Dr. Annna Rebeiro from Portugal (Aikins, E. K. W. and Ribeiro, A. I., 2019. Elements of Health and Medical Geography. First Edition. Kendall Hunt Publishing Company. Dubuque, Iowa, USA). He has published scholarly peer reviewed articles in recognized journals. He has attended and presented academic papers in internationally recognized conferences in Europe and America. He was a member of internationally recognized professional and learned bodies including the European AIDS Clinical Society and Fisheries Society of the British Isle. Currently, he is a member of the Health and Medical Geography Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers.
Prof. Eric K.W. Aikins is actively involved in research, teaching and supervision of both Post-graduate and Undergraduate Students theses in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, University of Cape Coast. His research interest include Geo-demography, Health and Medical Geography, Child Malnutrition and Family Planning, Geo-statistical Analysis, Spatio-economic Development of Tourism and its impacts, Climate Change and Global Warming Mitigations and Adaptations, Effects of Industrial and Domestic Waste Management Practices in Developing Counties, Regional Development Analysis, and Urban Planning.
