Deodat Charles Otami is a Lecturer at the Department of Science Education, Faculty of Science and Technology Education of the College of Education Studies, University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Until his appointment to the Lectureship position in 2013, he served at the following positions: Teaching Assistant, Senior Research Assistant, Principal Research Assistant and Assistant Lecturer respectively at that same department. Deodat holds a PhD in Science Education from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Part of his PhD work was done at the Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, University of Helsinki, Finland funded by the Finnish Centre for International Mobility (CIMO) of the North-South-South Doctoral Student Mobility Programme under the Culturally Responsive Education (CRE) Network Project. Dr. Otami research interests covers science teacher education within the global south, policy and practice of science education in developing country context, science teacher education reform and STEM education. He is particularly interested in investigating the relationships among psychological constructs such as efficacy, beliefs, identity and how the interplay between these constructs influence teachers’ instructional decision-making prior to and during the act of teaching (Science). He has worked on development projects funded by donors and ministries including Japanese Ministry of Education. Most recently, Dr. Otami served as a team member on the Secondary Education Improvement Project (SEIP) funded by the World Bank through the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service. Dr. Otami is proficient in database design, management and analysis in Excel, STATA, SPSS and Nvivo.
