Dr. Nicholas Ampofo is a Procurement Practitioner with extensive experience in Public Procurement and Administration. He is a Fellow of the Africa Institute of Public Administration and a member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS, UK) and the Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply (GIPS). He holds a PhD in Business Administration from CASS European Institute of Management Studies having studied for the programme at the Ghana Communication Technology University. Nicholas also holds Master of Business Administration (Finance) degree from Coventry University, UK and Master of Science (Procurement) from University of South Wales, UK. Nicholas obtained his bachelor's degree from University of Cape Coast in Social Sciences Education and a Post Graduate Certificate in Management from London Bridge Business School, UK. As part of Examinations qualifying him as a member of CIPS UK, he attained a Certificate, Advanced certificate and Diploma in Purchasing and Supply as well as Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply. His research interests include Public Procurement Law, Sustainable Supply Chain Management and Development, Strategic Supply Chain Management and Business Management and Administration.
Dr. Ampofo started as a Senior Accounting Assistant rising through the ranks to become Assistant Procurement Officer to Senior Procurement Officer and now the Head of Procurement at the University of Cape Coast. With several years of experience in the field of procurement, he has brought a number of changes which include establishment of Procurement Units at all Colleges of the University of Cape Coast, mentoring of other staff of procurement to become members of the Procurement professional bodies, successful enrollment and implementation of Ghana Electronic Procurement System (Ghaneps), design of new Local Purchase Order among others. He also led the creation of Contract management Unit, Tender Unit, Works Procurement Unit, Goods Procurement Unit and Services Procurement Unit at the University to further enhance the operations of the Procurement Office. In the past, he also served as Procurement Officer of the USAID Fisheries and Coastal Management Capacity Building Support Project and the Africa Center of Excellence in Coastal Resilience Project.
Aside from his core duties as Head of Procurement, Nicholas also teaches Procurement Courses at the Post-Graduate level on Part-time basis at the University of Cape Coast bringing his vast experience as great examples for his students and teaching courses like Procurement law, strategic supply chain management, procurement management among others.
He has facilitated a number of workshops including workshop on Contract Management-contractual claims during the Africa Centers of Excellence- ACE Impact 10th Regional Workshop held in 2023 in La Cote D'voire and workshops on Prospects in Procurement and Supply held for Final year University Students. He has also participated in several conferences and workshops in Ghana, UK, India, Kenya, South Africa, Switzerland, Nigeria, Canada among others.
As a service to the University Community, Nicholas has served on a number of Committees including serving as Secretary of the Entity Tender Committee, member of the Minor Works Committee, Procurement Advisory Committee, Congregation Planning Committee, Long Service Awards Committee, Board member of USAID Fisheries and Coastal Management Capacity Building Support Project, member of University Fund-raising Committee, Member of Tender Evaluation Committees, Member of Committee to review Memos written by Administrative Staff under the Registry among others.
Dr. Ampofo belongs to professional and welfare associations on campus. He is the Chairman of the Finance Welfare Association and the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA). In 2024, he served as Chairman of the GAUA Professional Week Planning Committee and led a very successful programme.
He is married with a beautiful daughter.
