Prof. (Mrs.) Nancy Innocentia Ebu Enyan is an Associate Professor of Nursing at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana. She served as the Dean of the School from August 2020 to July 2024. A registered nurse with over 20 years of experience in both clinical practice and academia, she received her professional training at the Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Cape Coast, Ghana.
Prof. Enyan holds a BSc in Nursing from UCC, an MSc in Public Health from Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, and both a Master of Nursing and a PhD in Health Promotion from UCC. She also holds a postgraduate certificate in Disease Control from the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam.
Her areas of expertise include health promotion, nursing education, nursing practice, and community engagement. She is passionate about mentorship and recognizes its crucial role in developing the next generation of nurses and midwives. As such, she has mentored, and continues to mentor, many undergraduate and postgraduate students. She actively collaborates with researchers both within Ghana and internationally and serves as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals focused on nursing, women’s health, and public health.
Prof. Enyan has held numerous leadership and administrative positions, including Coordinator for the Department of Mental Health, Faculty Registration and Examinations Officer, Department Registration Officer, and Sandwich Programme Coordinator for the School of Nursing and Midwifery. She has played a key role in establishing and maintaining local and international partnerships for the School.
She also serves as an External/International Examiner for universities in Ghana and abroad. She was an Exchange Visitor at the Kirkhof College of Nursing, Grand Valley State University, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. She has participated in several international training programmes, including the Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies (DIES) training on the International Dean’s Course for Africa, held in Germany and Ethiopia, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Prof. Enyan has received numerous honours and awards, including the prestigious Commonwealth Shared Scholarship from the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (UK), an Academic Achievement Award for Outstanding Performance from Northumbria University (England), an Outstanding Research Award from the College of Education Studies at UCC, the Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Award (Leadership and Governance category) from Ghana’s Ministry of Health, and the Best College-Level Researcher Award from the College of Health and Allied Sciences at UCC’s Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy.
She has served as a member of the governing board/council of both the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives. She has also served the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana in various capacities, including as a member of the consortium on the digitalisation of the patient/family care study project, a consultant for curriculum review, and a member of the steering committee on the revalidation of nurses and midwives in Ghana.
Prof. Enyan’s professional affiliations include the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives, Sigma Theta Tau International (Honour Society of Nursing), and the International Papillomavirus Society. She is both a Commonwealth Scholar and a DAAD alumna.
