Umar Farouk is an ACCREDITED PR Practitioner (APR) and an Award-Winning Administrator with extensive knowledge in strategic communications. He has over 15 years’ practice in PR and events planning with both local and international exposure. He is currently an Assistant Registrar and Head of the Protocol Section in the Directorate of Public Affairs.
Umar has worked as a Protocol and Events Management/Planning Officer with the Public Relations and Protocol Section (PR/P) and also as a Reporter with the Documentation and Information Section (DIS). He has had a reporting stint with the Public Agenda, an Advocacy Newspaper with sponsorship from ISODEC in the 2000s, as its Central Regional Correspondent.
With a Bachelor’s degree in English and Classics, and a Master’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, Farouk has built for himself, a solid communication background to enable him execute any PR agenda. His commitment to work and administrative duties won him the heart of the University Management when in 2018, he received the Outstanding Administrator Award.
Umar has served on both Local and International Committees as a Recorder, Secretary, or Member, some of which include the Congregation Planning Committee, Association of Commonwealth Universities International Conference, UCC/Unilorin International Conference, 15th RUFORUM AGM, among others. He has also attended several international and local Workshops and Conferences.
He belongs to a number of professional bodies including the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), Institute of Public Relations, Ghana (IPR Ghana) and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, UK (CIPR).
Umar Farouk is an avid reader, writer, editor, communicator and well-connected individual with strong negotiation skills.
