Dr. Mireku is a research scientist who has undertaken a considerable amount of research in fisheries and aquaculture related issues. From his undergraduate days, his interest in the fisheries resulted in his choice of project which focused on species diversity in the Brenu and Benya Lagoon in the Central Region, Ghana. His quest for academic excellence was the driving force which urged him to pursue masters and doctoral programmes in Fisheries & Aquaculture. During the said period, he was employed as a Research Assistant at the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Sciences where he has been working since 2005. He rose through the ranks from Senior Research Assistant to the position of Principal Research Assistant. Upon graduating with a PhD in Aquaculture and Fisheries from the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, he was appointed as a lecturer at the department. 

As part of his responsibilities, he has supervised both undergraduate and post graduate students in researches which are related to integrated aquaculture;  culture of marine species, and fisheries science. He is also supervising the breeding and growth of aquarium fish species at the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences. 

Dr. Mireku has served as a seminar coordinator (2020 -2022) and currently serving as the Departmental Registration and Examinations  Officer (2022 -Date).
