Joseph Arkorful is an experienced and dedicated ultrasonographer with a passion for improving patient care through patient-centered medical ultrasound practices and procedures. He is also passionate in advancing ultrasound and medical knowledge through teaching and research for improving patient-care. With his background and clinical experience in Medical ultrasound for more than a decade, he strives to create positive impact in both clinical practice and academia.
Joseph holds an Msc in Medical Ultrasound from the University of Derby, UK and a bachelor's degree in Sonography from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. He holds license to practice from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography and the Ghana Allied Health Professionals Council. He also holds competency licensing in fetal Nuchal translucency and preeclampsia screening from the Fetal Medicine Foundation, UK.
His over 10 years clinical experience and expertise are in the areas of Obstetrics ultrasound: fetal biometry assessment, fetal anatomical survey (anomaly scans), fetal well-being scans (uterine artery, umbilical artery and middle cerebral artery Doppler assessment), Gynecological ultrasound, Abdominal ultrasound, Upper and lower extremity Doppler ultrasound (including AV-fistula vascular mapping and fistula evaluation), Musculoskeletal ultrasound, Pediatric and Small parts ultrasound. He also possess leadership skills as an Ultrasound unit head and have served on several health committees at the KNUST Hospital.
As an academic, his teaching takes a practical-based and student-inclusiveness approach. This he believes provides students the avenue to be innovative, creative and confident. He is passionate with the mentoring of students and sonographers as he believes this will help shape future healthcare professionals in medical imaging for the greater good of the society.
Joseph's research goals and interests lie with patient-centered care and development of ultrasound models for predicting adverse pregnancy outcomes. He is also an enthusiast in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical imaging for improving patients' outcomes. Joseph also values interdisciplinary collaboration and believes in team-based approach as a conduit for adequate healthcare delivery.
Looking ahead, Joseph's goal is with the improvement of ultrasound practice for the benefit of the patient and committed to advancing healthcare knowledge and techniques through research and teaching.
