Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi joined the University of Cape Coast in 2007 as a lecturer in the then Department of Accounting and Finance. He became the first Head of Department of the newly created Department of Finance from August 2016 to July 2019. Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi is the Dean of the School of Business .
Prof. Gatsi believes in intellectual diversity and is able to apply his expertise in diverse disciplines such as financial and economic management, governance, financial industry regulation and oil and gas. Prof. Gatsi has expertise in finance, financial economics, regulatory management, oil and gas management and law.
He has published several articles in internationally reputable peer reviewed journals. He is the current chair of the panel who evaluates submissions by members of Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists with sponsorship from the World Bank from 2018. He served as an expert who evaluated semiannual Public Interest and Accountability (PIAC) reports on the use of petroleum revenue from 2015 to 2016. He was the facilitator for petroleum revenue management organized for Finance Committee of Parliament by PIAC in February 2017.
Prof. Gatsi was the lead facilitator to train University Administrators on public financial management and administrative law organized by the Professional and Management Development Unit of the School of Business, University of Cape Coast from 27th to 28th November, 2019. He was adjudged the SRC Best Lecturer in 2016. He is a member of the Governing Council of Evangelical Presbyterian University College, Ho, Ghana and serves as external examiner for postgraduate theses from sister academic Departments from Universities.
He presented papers in international conferences in Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, and United States among others and participated in corporate governance and leadership trainings in the United Kingdom.
He also coordinates the MBA Oil and Gas progr.amme in the Institute for Oil and Gas Studies
