Dr. Godwin Adzakpah holds a Ph.D. in Public Health with a concentration in Health Informatics and serves as a faculty member in the Department of Health Information Management at the University of Cape Coast, College of Health and Allied Sciences, School of Allied Health Sciences. His areas of specialization encompass health informatics, biostatistics, and public health.
His research interests focus on the adoption and implementation of digital health technologies (DHT) and health information systems, with a particular emphasis on their impact on healthcare service delivery in Ghana and beyond. Specifically, he explores the integration, security, and effectiveness of electronic health records (EHRs), telemedicine, and health information management systems in enhancing clinical outcomes, patient safety, and healthcare efficiency. Additionally, his work examines healthcare professionals' perceptions, ethical considerations, and readiness to adopt digital health interventions, highlighting the factors that influence their successful implementation. He also assesses the impact of digital health on critical health indicators, including claims processing, disease surveillance, and maternal and child health outcomes. Through an interdisciplinary approach, he seeks to bridge the gap between health informatics, policy development, and clinical practice, fostering evidence-based digital health transformation in resource-limited settings.
Dr. Adzakpah has received some prestigious awards, including the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) Early Career Grant (2024), the Group-Led Research Support Grant (2023), and the Inter-Departmental Research Support Grant (2017), awarded by the Directorate of Research, Innovation, and Consultancy (DRIC) at the University of Cape Coast.
He is a WHO-trained expert in the application of the Workload Indicators of Staffing Needs (WISN) methodology, which facilitates workforce distribution based on healthcare workload demands. With over a decade of practical experience in Health Information Management, he is proficient in statistical software packages such as STATA, SPSS, and the WHO WISN Tool.
