Dr. Daniel Anokwah is a trained pharmacist with a special interest in integrative healthcare. He has an MPhil and a Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy. His research focuses on using ethnomedicinal information and bioassay-guided techniques to explore medicinal plants for anti-infective constituents with prospects as novel therapies for mitigating multidrug-resistant infections. He is a recipient of the German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD) Scholarship where he was trained in methods of natural product drug discovery focusing on chromatographic methods, spectroscopic analysis, and biological investigations of natural products. He is also a beneficiary of the Novartis Next Generation Scientist Fellowship in early drug discovery where he completed a project in preclinical antimalaria drug discovery research. Dr. Anokwah is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH), the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), and a member of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA).
His previous works have established antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and wound-healing activity of Ghanaian medicinal plants and their bioactive constituents. His current research focuses on prospecting medicinal plants for antimicrobial and resistance modulation activity in preclinical drug discovery to develop novel therapies to mitigate drug resistance infection. Other aspects of his research seek to establish standards for the quality control and the development of herbal medicines.
