Christopher Yarkwah is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and ICT Education at the University of Cape Coast. He holds a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, and a Certificate in Data Science and Machine Learning from the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, USA. His Master’s degree in Mathematics Education and Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics were both obtained from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
Dr. Yarkwah’s research interests span Teacher Professional Development, Assessment in Mathematics Education, Technology Integration in Mathematics Education, and Curriculum Issues in Mathematics Education. His academic contributions have resulted in numerous publications in refereed journals, including Discover Education, Social Sciences and Humanities Open, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences Journal of Mathematics and Science Education, and the European Journal of Training and Development Studies.
He has presented papers at both local and international conferences, including the International Conference on Education Research for Development in Africa, Tampere University’s ERASMUS+ Workshop, and the World Education Research Association (WERA) meetings in Tokyo. Notable among his research outputs are studies on test anxiety in mathematics, culturally relevant pedagogy, and the integration of digital literacy in mathematics teaching.
Dr. Yarkwah has over 15 years of professional experience, including roles as a Mathematics Teacher at Wesley Girls’ High School and Principal Research Assistant at the University of Cape Coast. His current teaching portfolio includes courses on Pedagogical Content Knowledge, Research Methods in Mathematics Education, and Curriculum Development in Mathematics education.
Beyond academia, Dr. Yarkwah has demonstrated leadership in various capacities. He is currently the Head of the Department of Mathematics and ICT Education and the National President of the Nsaba Presbyterian Old Students Association (NAPOSA). He has also served as a Principal Investigator on several funded projects, such as the ERASMUS GOT Project, and as a reviewer for journals like the International Journal of Science and Mathematics Education.
Dr. Yarkwah’s commitment to academic excellence and community engagement is evident in his roles on boards and committees, including as a member of the University Teachers Association of Ghana and the PTA Chairman for University Primary School. His exemplary work has earned him accolades, such as the University of Cape Coast Research Grant and recognition for his dynamic leadership in sports during his undergraduate years.
Christopher Yarkwah continues to mentor students, lead impactful research, and contribute significantly to Mathematics Education both in Ghana and internationally.
