PROFILE OF DR. (MRS.) CHRISTIANA ASIEDU

Dr. (Mrs.) Christiana Asiedu is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Cape Coast, located in Ghana’s Central Region. She formerly served as Head of the Adult Health Nursing Department and currently leads the Department of Mental Health Nursing. In her role as department head, she oversees the administration and provides academic and operational supervision to lecturers, administrative staff, and students. Dr. Asiedu has actively participated in numerous seminars, workshops, and conferences at both national and international levels, serving as both attendee and facilitator. Originally from Abiriw Akwapem in the Eastern Region of Ghana, she is known for her dedication, passion, and enthusiasm in both her professional and personal life. She is also a committed Christian.

 

Education 

Dr. Asiedu began her nursing career by earning certifications as a Community Health Nurse (CHN) from the College of Community Health Nursing in Winneba and as a State Registered Nurse (SRN) from the Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Cape Coast. She went on to obtain both a diploma and bachelor with first-class honours in Health Sciences Education from the University of Cape Coast. Dr. Asiedu further advanced her academic qualifications with a PhD in Maternal and Child Health Promotion and an MPhil in Population and Health, both from the University of Cape Coast. Additionally, she holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Ghana, with a focus on population, family, reproductive, and adolescent health. She also possesses a Certificate in Health Administration and Management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra.

 

Working Experience 

Dr Christiana Asiedu has been a nurse, public health expert, and nursing educator for about 32 years. Dr. Asiedu began her professional career as a cleaner at Twifo Oil Palm Plantation Clinic in Twifo Eduabeng, Ghana's Central Region. She worked in Ghana's Maternal and Child Health Units in Asamankese and Winneba, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, and Winneba Government Hospital. Dr. Asiedu was a preceptor for the Community Health Nursing Training School in Winneba.

 

She has many years of experience teaching in Community Health Nursing Training Colleges in Winneba, Esiama, and Fomena. She is the driving force behind Pentecost University's nursing programme and has previously taught at the same university's Department of Nursing. Dr. Christiana Asiedu taught in the Health Science Education Department of the University of Cape Coast's College of Education. Dr. Asiedu is currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast's Department of Adult Health and School of Nursing and Midwifery. Dr. Asiedu has considerable tutorial, practical, and examination experience in Nursing and Midwifery, with specialties in Public Health, General Nursing, Reproductive, and Adolescent Health. She has been serving the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana for a number years. Dr. Asiedu is a consultant and curriculum developer for nursing and midwifery programmes. She has taken on a range of tasks in the Church of Pentecost. Dr. (Mrs.) Christiana Asiedu is a motivational speaker who has spoken at religious, women's, youth, and corporate events both domestically and internationally.

 

Achievements 

Dr. Christiana Asiedu is the author of various books, including Principles and Practice of Community Health Nursing and Issues in Public Health Practice; Family Planning: The Legacy of a Healthy Living; Concepts of Community and Public Health Applied Personal and Environmental Health; Nursing Practice and Public Health Administration; Surgery and Surgical Nursing in a Modern and Technological World; Understanding anatomy and physiology applied to health; Medical Nursing and Pathophysiology in Health and Illness, including the Virtuous Woman of Noble Character, and others. Dr. Asiedu possesses vast commercial experience. She also founded the Adolescent Health Club in Ansaful, Asebu, and Pomadze in Winneba, Ghana's central region and CEO of Chriselite Lecture series. She has mentored and continues to mentor the vast majority of healthcare professionals. She is really supportive and eager to assist anyone who comes her way. Dr. Asiedu has garnered numerous distinctions. During her SRN education, she was Ghana's best surgical nursing graduating student; she received the Health Entrepreneurship and Achievers Award in 2022; the Church of Pentecost Chairman's Honour on May 4th, 2022; and the National Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research Category Award from the Ministry of Health Ghana in May 2021. She was recognised for her great contributions to adult education and research on December 15, 2023, by the African Public Service Optimum Awards and the Business Executive.

Dr Asiedu is a Research Scholar with the International Collaboration for Community Health Nursing Research (ICCHNR), under the mentorship of Emeritus Professor Gina Awoko Higginbottom, a distinguished British academic, nurse, midwife, health visitor, and expert in international migration and maternity care.

Dr Christiana Asiedu has been and continues to serve on a number of boards and committees in the institutions where she has worked, including the University and the Church of Pentecost.

Family Life

Dr Mrs Christiana Asiedu is married to Mr Victor Asiedu and have four children: Ing. Mrs Christiana Mintaah Asiedu Amponsah (civil engineer - London),  Mr Eric Okai Asiedu (Economist and CEO of Ownership and Flodika group of firms - Ghana, Mr Enoch Okai Asiedu (Prisons officer - Ghana) and Ms Emmanuella Florence Odi Asiedu (MPhil Nursing Student, UCC- Ghana).

 

My philosophy of teaching is that all students must be active participants in the teaching and learning process.


Good teacher-student relation facilitate effective learning. Every student is unique due to that i will provide environment where students are able to share their ideas .
