About

Angela Dziedzom Akorsu is an Associate Professor and the Dean of the School for Development Studies, University of Cape Coast, Ghana. She holds a PhD from the University of Manchester in the UK. She has been engaged in outreach activities involving trade union education and post-graduate research supervision for close to 20 years. Professor Akorsu’s scholarly research interests are around informal economy organising, gender and rural women’s livelihoods, decent work along agricultural value chains. Philosophical foundations of development Studies as well as Gender and Development are among her enduring interests.

Dr. Akorsu has been contributing to the teaching of Philosophical Foundations of Development Studies at the School for development Studies. In this post-graduate level course, four key themes are treated and these are: (1) ontological assumptions that underpin development theory to explain social reality; (2) epistemological assumptions that underpin knowledge construction, providing a basis for evaluating knowledge claims and their effects on development theory and practice; ( 3) feminists epistemology and African philosophy as alternatives to mainstream philosophical thinking and (4) Philosophical perspectives of political ethics and governance.
