Dr Daniel Sakyi Agyirifo holds a doctorate in Biotechnology from Kenyatta University, Kenya, an MPhil degree in Botany (Specialised in Food Microbiology) and a Bachelor of Science in Botany/Zoology from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. 

Dr Agyirifo was employed as a lecturer at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, University of Cape Coast in the year 2010. Before his employment as a lecturer, he held the position of senior research assistant from 2007 to 2010 at the department. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, School of Biological Sciences, College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences. Dr Agyirifo's research interests focus on Microbial Metagenomics, Food Safety, Bioactive Products,  Fermentation and Antimicrobial Resistance. He has supervised PhD and MPhil students. His current MPhil students are working on 'Metagenomics of Millet Fermentation Microbiome' and 'In Silico Molecular Docking Analysis of Herbal Spices'.  He has published 27 research articles in peer-reviewed journals. He serves as an External Examiner at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, KNUST. 

He has served on some committees and boards at the University of Cape Coast including the School of Biological Science Board, School of Biological Science Curriculum Review Committee, UCC Residence Board Committee (2019 to date), University of Cape Coast Time Table Committee (2017 to 2021), Faculty of Social Science Board (2016 to 2017) and School of Biological Sciences Graduate Thesis Committee (2015 to 2017). 

Dr Agyirifo was the Senior Hall Tutor of the Kwame Nkrumah Hall (2019 to July 2023) of the University of Cape Coast, having served as the Hall Tutor (2016 to 2019) and the Examination Officer of the School of Biological Sciences (2016 to 2017). He is also the Patron of the Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Students’ Association, University of Cape Coast (2015 to date).

He has participated in conferences including the ISCB Africa ASBCB Conference Bioinformatics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana and the International Conference on Climate Change, University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He has also attended workshops on Advanced Genomics and Bioinformatics at the ILRI Campus, Nairobi, Kenya, K-RITH Biostatistics Course at the KwaZulu Natal Research Institute for Tuberculosis and HIV in Durban, South Africa and Finger Millet Annotation Jamboree at the ILRI Campus, Kenya, among others.
